If you know me, you know the only type of cookies I like are chocolate chip, and I hate any cookies with nuts in them. However, these Levain Bakery cookies changed my mind. Levain Bakery is a bakery based in NYC, and their chocolate chip walnut cookies are one of their most popular items! These cookies were absolutely delectable and, honestly, the best ones I’ve ever had. The inside was gooey and chocolatey, and the walnuts added a crunch. I posted a video of me breaking into the gooey cookies right out of the oven, and it got over 21K views and 3000 likes, and a lot of you wanted a recipe as to how I made them!!
I followed this recipe from Modern Honey: https://www.modernhoney.com/levain-bakery-chocolate-chip-crush-cookies/, and it worked so well! I tweaked the recipe a little bit here and there, which I will share now!
I used dark chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate. I feel like this worked out well since it balanced the sweet cookie a bit since the chocolate was not as sweet and a little bit bitter. I also made sure the cookie dough was separated into 6 oz balls so it was even throughout. I made sure to use a measuring scale for this. Some recipes may say 8 oz, which will be an even bigger cookie, but I feel like 6 oz is the perfect amount. I also baked the cookies a little bit longer, for around 15–18 minutes, since this allowed the top of the cookie to brown a bit more while still having the center of the cookie gooey. Lastly, I would recommend topping the cookies with some sea salt. I didn’t do it this time, which I regret, but it would be the perfect last touch to balance the sweetness!
I loved these cookies so much, and the 8 cookies I did end up making were gone in a couple days!! I can’t wait to make them again, and if you guys end up making them, please do share pictures with me!!
