This past weekend, I had the amazing opportunity to create a beautiful and fun dessert table for Mia, who turned two! Mia is one of my mom’s close friend’s daughter and she is the cutest little girl ever. I have so much fun spending time playing with her, and when her mom asked me to fully take over the desserts for her 2nd birthday, I couldn’t say no!

Her birthday was no small feat. It was a huge 250 person party at a park that was set up so nicely. The best part was the theme, which was “Mia is 2 Sweet!” Mia was wearing a shirt that had that on it, along with the cutest tutu. I knew I had to match the dessert table to the colors of her outfit and the overall theme.

I first started by deciding on the desserts. I obviously had to incorporate macarons, but I also added mini cupcakes, little bags of popcorn and M&M’s, candy, cakes which we bought from a local baker, and Payesh, an Indian dessert that is basically a sweetened rice pudding that Mia absolutely loves. For the flavors of the macarons, I had birthday cake, pistachio, pineapple, and Nutella cheesecake, all flavors that Mia and her little friends would enjoy! Preparing all of these desserts for a 250-person party took a whole week of baking, and a special shoutout to my parents for helping out (especially my mom with the Payesh) and letting me take up all the fridge space LOL!

My biggest concern was the weather. A lot of the desserts consisted of fillings or frostings with butter, and with the party being outdoors, I was scared that the extreme summer heat would literally melt everything. However, we got lucky, and the table was set up underneath a big tree, so the entire area was shady, and the desserts were fine for the afternoon!

When I got to the venue, the table and the backdrop were already set up by Mia’s mom, so I had to mainly decorate the table with the desserts and other decor. I had a macaron tower and used some wooden boxes, adding some of the desserts on top of them to add dimension to the table. I also had some lights that spelled out Mia, which was a perfect touch that customized the table. And she got to keep them for her room after the party!! Lastly, I made sure to use pink, gold, and colorful decor to hold all the desserts, like the cupcakes, so the theme is present and clear.

The table turned out to be such a hit, and everyone was telling me how much they loved the desserts. There were some people who didn’t even want to touch the table since it looked so pretty!! The best part about it is that all the proceeds raised from the dessert table are being donated to Lyndale Elementary School to help their underprivileged students participate in field trips and other activities that will enhance their learning. If you would also like to donate, please feel free to do so here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-lyndale-elementary-school!

I am so grateful for this opportunity to be a part of Mia’s special day, and I hope I can do even more dessert tables in the future!
